How Positive Self-Talk Can Help With Anxiety Attacks
We discussed teaching and modeling different techniques in working through an anxiety/panic attack, regardless of its origin. We also discussed the different types of anxiety creating the panic attack. We'll break it down:
Different Types of Anxiety
Listed below of different types of Anxiety. This may not be a complete list and we recommend seeking more information on all.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): excessive concern over day-to-day problems for more than six-months
Panic Disorder: experience regular attacks of panic or fear
Social Anxiety Disorder: an everyday social interaction leads to irrational fear, embarrassment, or anxiety; a person may be afraid of being judged or humiliated in social interactions
Phobia-related Disorders: an irrational or excessive worry or fear about something; even though a person knows these thoughts are irrational, they may be afraid of an object, situation, or place.
Separation Anxiety Disorder: one of the most common types of anxiety disorders, it is when someone experiences excessive distress when separated from someone else
Agoraphobia: excessive fear or worry about leaving home or going to a crowded place
Concomitant ASD and SAD: People with Autism Spectrum Disorders presenting Social Anxiety Disorder traits associated with alterations in social reciprocity and particularly social communication and social motivation.
ADHD and Anxiety: individuals with ADHD are four times more likely to have GAD at some point in their life.
Techniques to Help Overcome Anxiety in the Moment
There are many different techniques available when it comes to helping a person work through a moment of anxiety. Seeking professional help is always at the forefront of any plan. Positive Self-Talk is one technique to regain control during an anxiety attack. Learn more:
